The 35 finalist of the European Car of the Year 2011 Award

The most important European car competition, the European Car of the Year, has announced the list of the 35 models that will enter the battle for the big prize in this autumn.

To be eligible for the Car of the Year award, a car must be launched in Europe during 2010 and appear on at least two continents until June 2011.

In this year finalists list, the best represented car manufacturers are Citroen and Nissan with three models each (C3, C4 and DS3, respectively Juke, Leaf and Micra). Renault with the Wind is also on the list along with the first Romanian SUV manufactured by Dacia, The Duster.

The 35 finalist of the European Car of the Year Award are:

2010-spec Saleen S281 Mustang

Sneak peaks are always adorable and we keep looking forward to them. Any chance we got to seeing a new model is great. Today is the turn of the new 2010-spec Saleen S281 Mustang thanks to Saleen’s Flickr page earlier this month. And from what we can tell, the community is having a positive reaction to these photos. The car is gorgeous and they managed to keep the same design lines but in the same time bring a lot of innovation. It seems that 2010 Mustang will be a hit.

10% increase in sales for Ford

Good news comes from Ford, while the general auto market is still in slow decline. It seems that Ford has improved the sales. According to The Detroit News, Ford managed to grab 10.1% of Europe’s overall market share in September 2009. It is the first time when they increase the sales with two digits, since 2001 September. According to the press release Ford has sold 155,000 vehicles in September in Europe’s 19 biggest markets, up 12.3% versus September 2008. On the Fiesta segment they have gained about 10%. Ford’s Europe VP Ingvar Sviggum told the DetNews: “It is clear that there is still a need for government intervention in Europe to help bolster the market until demand reaches a more sustainable level.”

2010 Ford Fiesta

In December, the much expected Ford Fiesta 2010 will be launched at LA Auto Show. So far, there have been many models for the Fiesta but only European or Chinese models. Now it is the time for the US version that seems to have some slight differences when it comes to look. But there will be no major changes to the basic shape, only enlarged bumpers front and rear, and those will likely have a small impact on the car’s fascias. Overall the changes should be minor. Also, about 50.000 Americans have expressed an interest in buying this car, according to Ford.

2010 Hurst/Mustang Pace Car Series Convertibles

Hurst Performance, a company that created many iconic cars with interesting designs in the racing history, is not coming with a new item. They just announced the manufacturing of 50 limited production replicas of its supercharged BF Goodrich/Hurst 2010 Mustang Pace Car. The brand new pace car is powered by a supercharged engine pounds out 435+ horsepower and over 400 lb.-ft of torque with Magnaflow custom-tuned stainless steel exhaust. If you want this baby, the Hurst/Mustang Pace Car Series Convertibles, you will have to pay about $36,450.00 or even more, depending on the options.

Ford Ecoboost Four Cylinder Engine

2009 is the year of the Ford’s Ecoboost era. The brand new twin-turbocharged of 3.5-liter V6 has found its way and will be under the Lincoln MKS and MKT hoods. The twin-turbocharger will also be used for the Ford Taurus and Ford Flex. The blown six can deliver excellent V8 performance with V6 fuel economy. But it can go up on the highway mileage. Ford was hoping in the past to solve that by delivering a four-cylinder version to this engine. And now Ford has officially sent out the news that they have launched into production the new 2.0-liter four-cylinder Ecoboost variant. It will be capable of more than 230 hp and also 240 lb-ft of torque. The drivers will have great V6 performance with four-pot fuel economy. The engine has also applications for cars and trucks too. Inside Line said today that the Ford reps stated the first application of the 2.0-liter Ecoboost will not necessarily be in a car. Still, we think the 2011 Ford Explorer is a probable candidate. There are even rumors that say the engine will be under the hood of Mustang too, making it cost efficient.

2010 Ford Taurus SHO

It is said that the Americans haven’t paid much attention during the years to the sedans segment. But now, the Detroit 3 have done some models capable to shift that saying. For example, the Cadillac’s new CTS-V is a sport sedan that can become the best in the world. The Pontiac’s G8 GT and GXP are other two excellent examples. Also, Chrysler’s 300C SRT8 and Charger SRT8 are decent sedans too. Oh, and then there is the Ford Taurus SHO. This model follows the 1989-1991 SHO and the 1992-1995 original models. It has 220-horsepower Yamaha-sourced 3.0-liter V6. Also, the shape of the For Taurus’ body is revolutionary. The handsome mid-size sport sedan can compete against Nissan Maximas and some other pricey competitors.

Rumors about Ford Mustang 32 valve Coyote V8

The Ford Mustang 5.0 has been under the radar for some time now. But now, with the new 32 valve Coyote V8, it might just come out of the shade. The comeback has been long waited for and it could turn to be most successful. The new V8 will have a 5.0 liter and the same transmission options. The car could also have manual or automatic gearbox and other interesting options. So far, all are rumors but people in the field say the car will be released some time soon. Until we see some real proof, it is safe to treat this with a bit of skepticism.

Ford F-150 Harley Davidson-Edition

After seeing in 2008 the redesigned Ford F-150 the entire auto world is getting ready to welcome the new Harley-Davidson Limited Edition. Since 2000 Ford has created no less than 14 Harley edition pickups and in 8 years around 74,000 customers bought bike-badged trucks.

This new 2010 F-150 Harley-Davidson Edition so imposing that will awe us all into silence. The car wears 22-inch forged aluminum wheels and a center cap that proudly displays the Harley Davidson logo. On the inside there’s enough space for 5 passengers and the seats are covered in the same leather as the one used for the official biker jackets.

The F-150 is running on a 5.4L V8 engine delivering 320 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque matched to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Ford announced that the 2010 F-150 Harley-Davidson Edition will go on sale this very summer but the information on pricing are still to be determined.

Shelby Mustang ‘R Model’

According to some rumors the new Shelby Mustang, a race-only R-Model commemorating Jerry Titus’ 1965 SCCA Championship with the original Shelby GT-350R will be officially introduced on the market at the NHRA Winternationals. The vehicle will use the 2010 model for inspiration but the base platform will be the 2007-2008 Shelby GT.

The specs list comprises a Ford Racing supercharger delivering 550hp, 3.73:1 gears, a six-speed Tremec TR6060 transmission, side-exit exhaust system, Grand-Am spec roll cage, racing brakes with cooling ducts, differential and transmission coolers, carbon fiber rear wing, an "R Model" dash plaque and a unique grill.

Only 37 models of the original R-Model were released on the market and apparently the same thing will happen with this new car. The retail price has been officially established at $134,995.
